CMTS and the NSF GRANTED Initiative

CMTS leads a National Science Foundation GRANTED Initiative project focused on showing how the CMTS model can be adopted successfully at non-R1 institutions. Institutions adopt the CMTS model and leverage shared human capital rather than replicating services.

Through this initiative, partner institutions apply a structured human capital approach to research technology support that helps strengthen researcher productivity while reducing the cost and complexity of maintaining secure, compliant research environments.

Instead of building separate support structures in parallel, institutions can use shared expertise, standardized service blocks, and guided implementation shaped to fit local needs.

The project supports pilot implementations, cross-institutional collaboration, and the development of a practical model that other institutions can adapt. Together, this work shows how institutions with limited research infrastructure can support research growth more sustainably without taking on unnecessary long-term operational burden.
