Guiding Principles

CMTS Logo and Principals

The Center for Managed Technology Services (CMTS) is a center within Texas A&M AgriLife Information Technology. CMTS is a system-of-systems innovation that transforms how research entities manage, share, and sustain technology capacity. We unite people, technology, and compliance through a cost-recovery framework that increases research productivity without increasing cost.

CMTS serves as the bridge between the systems that power research—data, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and compliance—connecting them through commoditized human capital delivery.
This approach standardizes access to specialized expertise through measurable, sustainable service blocks, helping researchers focus on discovery rather than technical or administrative barriers.
Within the Texas A&M System, CMTS offers a collaborative platform that members can join and leverage to expand capacity, strengthen compliance, and modernize research technology environments.

Our Background

CMTS was established in early 2021 to offer cloud-focused resources and support to researchers within Texas A&M AgriLife. As demand for services grew and the value of shared ownership became evident, the Service Center rebranded in the summer of 2024 as the Texas A&M AgriLife: Center for Managed Technology Services. This evolution reflects its expanded role in providing comprehensive managed technology solutions to support diverse research projects across the institution.

In today’s rapidly advancing research landscape, technology has become an indispensable partner—empowering investigators to unlock new discoveries and expand our understanding of the world around us. At the heart of this effort stands CMTS, a pivotal hub that bridges the gap between advanced technology and human capital, harnessing the combined potential of expertise and research.

Mission

CMTS unites people, technology, and compliance through a cost-recovery framework that increases research productivity without increasing cost. We offer scalable expertise through commoditized human capital delivery, enabling researchers to focus on discovery while strengthening compliance and efficiency. As a collaborative platform, CMTS helps System members join forces to share expertise, expand capacity, and modernize technology environments.

Vision

To build a connected research ecosystem where every System member can access the expertise, technology, and compliance capacity needed to lead innovation without increasing cost. CMTS envisions a future where human capital is shared, measurable, and sustainable—the bridge uniting the systems that power research.

Core Values

  • Collaboration Over Competition: We succeed by working together. CMTS unifies System members, offering shared expertise that strengthens research outcomes across institutions.
  • Stewardship of Human Capital: We treat expertise as a shared institutional asset. Every service block represents a commitment to responsible, transparent, and sustainable management of human capital.
  • Innovate with Integrity: We pursue modernization, automation, and efficiency while maintaining trust, accountability, and professionalism in every interaction.
  • Measurable Impact: We believe effectiveness must be demonstrable. Every hour offered, system managed, or compliance task completed adds measurable value to research productivity and institutional growth.
  • Equity Through Access: We remove barriers to technology and expertise so that all researchers—regardless of location, funding, or institutional size—can access the same high level of support.
  • Sustainability by Design: We build systems that last, scalable, sustainable, and ready for what comes next.
